1️⃣Line up two athletes 5 feet apart from one another
2️⃣Drill begins with leader at front, player two goes once player one initiates drill
3️⃣Get in an athletic position, crossover cued markers (cones)three times, and accelerate forward
4️⃣Player 2 is trying to catch player 1 out of reaction
5️⃣Stay on your toes each crossover, and utilize upper limbs to transfer force

Pinch in your hip squatting? 💫

Often I’ll see folks experiencing a pinch in the front of their hip with squatting... so obviously the painful side is the issue side, right? 🙅🏻‍♀️NOT SO FAST. I’ve noticed lots of folks with room for improvement on their “non-affected” side hip concerning internal rotation.

👉🏻You're looking for 35-40° of IR - more for different sports (ie: hockey goalie) -if you’re lacking IR on 1 side you may be dumping (and probs laterally shifting) into your other side to compensate- that side then becomes the “affected” side but is just the dude getting hammered on. Not the case for everyone but... food for thought.

Couple ways to work on some IR?
.
🎥Supine Internal rotation- 📍lying on your back 📍gently let knee fall inward towards body while keeping bum on the ground 📍use opposite side foot to push knee down towards ground inducing more internal hip rotation
.
🎥Seated Internal Rotation* 📍get yourself into a Z sit (where my dancers at?)* the back leg is the one we're stretching, if you have the motion you can keep hands out front or 📍if you need an added 'umph' hold your ankle down towards the ground, 📍gently lean towards the stretching side 📍feel the stretch through the hip

{*If you’re getting a “hard stop” with these motions it might be more of a how you’re put together issue- be smart and don’t just grind away on something that isn’t changing}.

Now, important- once you gain this motion- use it. Get squatting... or whatever it is you do 💪🏻 .

DO YOU MAKE THIS BOX JUMP MISTAKE?!

What’s up Achievers?! here with a common mistake we see when people perform box jumps. Box jumps are a phenomenal way to teach proper landing mechanics because it limits the amount of distance on the way down after someone jumps up in the air.

Once a person becomes proficient with their landing mechanics, we like to take the box away and go with a traditional squat jump, or a jump over hurdles to then further the amount of distance they travel on the way down - thereby increasing the amount of force that they have to absorb. For this reason, jumping off the box after a box jump doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. There are very specific instances in which a coach may have their athlete **step** off of the box and then immediately jump thereafter, but that movement, which is called a depth jump, is entirely different and deserves its own post altogether. The only other instance where someone may want to jump off a box is if they are in a CrossFit setting and need to do a certain amount of jumps “for time”. But, for most other purposes, we think that stepping off is a better approach and provides a lot less impact on the knees.

✍️ Step ups are great accessory exercises to develop single leg strength, stability, etc. A common mistake I see when performing this exercise is to use the opposite leg (non-working leg) to push through the ground. A way to isolate this more to single leg work is to lift the toes up, which forces more effort to be done on the working leg. Now, if you are loading this movement up w/ DB’s / some other sort of external load then it will be that much hard to perform it this way (toes up) - this is just a way to challenge yourself with your body weight before progressing. .

The upside down kettle bell press with a band is one of my favorite overhead stability drills for a few reasons.📝

First, let’s talk anatomy. Your shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in your entire body. The end of your arm bone called your humerus sits on top of the shoulder blade socket like a golf ball sits on top of a golf tee. In order to keep the golf ball on the tee, a number of small muscles called your rotator cuff must work hand in hand with the larger muscles that lie on top (like your deltoid).✅

If these muscles don’t provide sufficient stability, the kettle bell will roll around and fall over. This is because the higher center of the kettle bell makes it harder to control and maintain balance. Add in the band pull and it get’s even more difficult.✅
.
As a physical therapist I often mimic this with exercises called rhythmic stabilization. The goal is to apply random forces to the arm while the person attempts to maintain position.💪🏼
.
Fighting to maintain position against unbalanced forces is the same idea behind the kettle bell press. If the band pull is too difficult, use only an open kettle bell until you’re able to build up enough stability.✅
.
Usually I like to program sets of 5 reps with as heavy of weight as I can handle without losing stability.📝

Whether that is linear or lateral we must be aware that sports are not always played this way. When athletes are asked how they would like to get faster they rarely answer with the 10 or the 40 yard dash. They want speed for the field. Challenging them to maintain linear mechanics during a run such as this could help putting the missing pieces of their game together. Train them for the situations they will see in competition and let them take it to another level. .

Cricket is an intermittently explosive game that requires explosive speed, strength, rotating, bending and holding of certain positions. The core strength will enhance these qualities. Adequate core stability keeps you safe from injury and able to produce power throughout these movements.
An age old notion, the topic core stability immediately conjures sit ups, crunches and more sit ups. This simply creates muscle imbalances.
The core consists of 29 muscles consisting of abdominals, hip region musculature, back and gluteal muscles.
The following are the benfits from effective core stability for cricket :
1. Correct postural allignment and maintenance.
2. Trunk or core region stabilization during movement.
3. Force reduction produced in that area.
4. Power and force production.

1️⃣Multidirectional Jumps- stick each landing before proceeding to next jump, hips square, and above knee joint
2️⃣Depth Drop to Bound- quick ground reaction time, and stick landing before moving to next
3️⃣Landmine Squats- pause at bottom for 1 second, and drive up in full extension. Hips through and drive up on toes
4️⃣Split Squat to Press- drive back with 1 second pause at bottom, and drive back up pressing bar out in front
5️⃣SL Box Hops- drive up on single leg bringing knee to 90 degrees, use arms to drive up, and control with soft landing

When it comes fitness in general, there are countless stereotypes that come to mind right away.. Whether it’s the Crossfitter who never stops talking about how insane that WOD was or the bodybuilder who spends more time in front of the mirror than actually lifting weights or the powerlifter who seems to have it out for the floor whenever they deadlift, we could all go on forever.. Let’s focus specifically on bodybuilding here,
Now there are countless articles with tips on how to increase your bench or on how to squat like a pro, but this post you’re reading right now isn’t going to talk about either of those things.. Don’t roll your eyes yet, this is not where I proceed to lecture you about counting macros.. While I do agree that counting macros and being on top of your nutrition is absolutely critical, I’m talking about something else. I’m talking about your mindset.. Yes, you have to know, in your head and in your gut, that you have the potential to become the best at whatever it is you do-in this case, bodybuilding(doesn’t mean for you to become a bodybuilder but a training protocol which is more aesthetic driven)
Until you make that decision and convince yourself that there is no other option, you won’t fulfill your potential.. Until you make that decision, your training won’t be as intense, that bag of 🍟 won’t be as big of a deal, those couple 🍷 won’t matter because “I was good all week so I deserve it”. The problem with that thought process is that too often we think in terms of short periods of time, like weeks for example.. We don’t keep the big picture in mind and our vision of what we ultimately want in life becomes clouded by daily distractions.. If you are happy with average then that’s awesome, in fact, you’ve already won.. I’m talking to the 👱🏼‍♂️ (and 👩🏻) who want to excel and become one of the best.. In order for that to happen you have to have an unreasonable amount of focus, dedication, and energy to achieve your goals.. Yes, an unreasonable amount.. The mindset that you have when it comes to 🏋️‍♀️ is what will catapult you to amazing or hold you down at average. Which direction you go is up to you and no one else..

A tear of the Glenoid Labrum can be a tough injury to rehab. The goal is to improve strength & stability in the shoulder. Often times we can avoid surgery and the tear will heal. Other times popping and disclocations continue and surgery is indicated. Either way you need to get strong in order to have good outcomes so rehabilitation is always the first step. We also want to keep the other shoulder strong too!

Here are some great exercises for improving shoulder stability & strength in the shoulder:
1️⃣Push Press Forward w/Plate
2️⃣Halo’s w/Plate
3️⃣Front Raises w/DB’s
4️⃣Bicep Curls w/DB’s
5️⃣Bent Over Row w/DB
6️⃣Short Range Push Ups( it never hurts to give your patient support & encouragement!)
