Preparation is the name of the game when it comes to healthy eating. If you don’t take time to plan out your week or go to the grocery store, you are pretty much setting yourself up for failure.
.
Now it doesn’t have to be extravagant or complicated! Just setting aside a few hours on the weekend to plan, grocery shop and prep some meals make a world of difference. Below are some of my tips for planning ahead & remember your health is worth it!
.
1 - Write your meals for the week & then grocery list before you grocery shop! I think in categories of: Veggies, Fruit, Protein, Health fats & Carbs.
.
2 - Invest in tupperware & mason jars! You’ll be motivated to prep once you have the proper storage. (I use 16 oz mason jars for overnight oats & 32oz for salad jars.)
.
3 - Buy some seasoning to switch up the flavor easier. @Flavorgod is my current fav!
.
4 - Multi-task your food! If you have items cooking on the stove and in the oven, you’ll be done much faster!
.
5 - Don’t be afraid to start small! Small steps can add up to big results. Even cooking just lunches for the week can make a difference.
.
6 - Invest in some meal prep cooking tools. My current favorites are my Instant Pot, egg cooker and veggie spiralizer.

This #question has always confounded me - how much rest is too much or too little? On some days, too little rest between exercises got me a greater #caloric burn but my form deteriorated over time; too much rest felt 'slow' but i could complete my reps/sets in perfect form and got a great calorie burn on my @fitbit ! So how do you pick rest times - ⁠
.⁠
1️⃣ Whats your #goal ? - fatloss, body re-composition (fatloss with building lean muscle), build #endurance , build maximal strength, powerlifting, increase muscle size (bulk)⁠
2️⃣ Whats your #training style ? - based on your goal & fitness level you will be doing a customized exercise program eg: HIIT, compound lifts, stablization etc. .⁠

☑️Fatloss : opt for relatively short rest periods to keep their heart rate elevated, thus maximizing caloric expenditure. Rest as little as possible, a sip of water here there & dive back in. Eg: during HIIT : High Intensity Interval Training - recovery periods can be active (such as a plank) or at full rest. A good rule of thumb: you should not be able to talk and work out simultaneously during a well-programmed HIIT workout. Move quickly & build momentum during your sets. My sweet spot based on my current fitness levels is 30 sec work/30 sec rest.⁠

☑️Building Muscle or 'Hypertrophy' : during compound lifts aimed at target# muscle groups (barbell squats, back workouts etc) allow 60-90 seconds between sets for rest. This will help achieve hypertrophy because your muscles will be fatigued. My sweet spot is 50-60 sec between exercises. Allowing yourself to rest sufficiently during weight-training helps maintain proper form, regulate breathing, avoids risk of injury due to over-exhaustion - now that doesn't mean you scroll📱or start socializing between sets; set the weight down, let the lactic acid build-up release & prepare mentally for the next set.

Shirataki noodles are a great option to add as they are low in carbs and a entire serving has less than 4g of carbs. Very easy to make and great texture which will fill you up!

My fav menu in the morning.
I usually to cook it on weekends.
This menu is easy and quick to cook after I cardio.
.
Add Almond milk, Oat, Eggs white and stir to combine.
Heat over medium-high heat for 6-7 minutes.
Once all the liquid is absorbed and the oatmeal is cooked through,
place in a bowl and add your favorite toppings.
I used cherries and apple slide, but I always used light Soy Sauce.

Starting my day off right with a pomegranate fizz to keep my energy up for the kiddos. Summertime means lots of family time while being out of routine so I definitely need to be on my “A” game! Before being introduced to the 30 Days to Healthy, I relied heavily on coffee to stay awake and energized. I didn’t realize how much this routine was hurting my gut and my health. Not to mention the addictive behavior. I also honestly didn’t think I could give it up. But I did and I have and I don’t really miss it. 😳 Besides, the fizz gives me the endurance and peace of mind knowing it’s fueling my body with the right stuff. And my teeth thank me, too. 😬Win!

7/17/19 It was my 2nd time back to #CrossFit since surgery and it was amazeballs! Deadlifts are my all time favorite! We were hot, loud and sweaty! I had to scale, not sure about burpees or jumping yet. But I damn sure loaded my bar!
